| James as a very young puppy. |
We had always known that we'd find a companion for little James, who became alone after we lost our Spanish Water Dog, Carlos. The little Coton de Tulear had already become much more dog than the toys that many Cotons become in people's living rooms all over... Well, maybe that's fair enough, as the Coton actually was bred for the aristocracy of Madagascar, of all places.
A matter of time...
We had several factors in mind when we were deciding upon our second dog. Mostly, we needed a dog that was suitable for all. But then, walking James one night, we bumped into another dog-walker and we did the thing that we usually never do: We asked: "Oh, what breed is your dog?"
"Tibetan terrier," replied the kind man. That quickly made us dismiss the thought, because we had both always known that we were never going to have a terrier. But the image of that strange, goofy and incredibly cute dog, haunted us. So much that we googled the Tibetan terrier and found that the name was misplaced and that it was far from a terrier.
So suddenly we had one of these creatures with us in the car, towards home. His new home. Rufus' new home. Our place. Yup, we had bought another dog. James, waiting at home, had no idea what was coming. And neither did we, actually ;-)
Yin and Yang - Or what?
Much to our delight, it all went well. The two, James and Rufus, were like long lost pals. They immediately began biting, humping, playing and generally goofing around each other, just like doggies are supposed to. Staying home from work one day to monitor them turned out to be quite unnecessary. Goodness, these creatures were doing well together!
| Like Yin and Yang, the two beasts seemed like meant for each other. |
However, as well as they were doing together, they were as day and night. And that is not just because of their colours. These dog animals are weird and peculiar in their own ways. Small creatures but huge personalities. Certainly worth blogging about.
Dog-blog number whatever...
There must be a million and something blogs about dogs out there. So what makes me want to add another? One particular funny occurrence was so special that I just have to tell about it. Like I wrote before, these two dogs are pretty different. And of course going out into the garden for a compulsory pee is a great example of this.
James is perfectly housebroken by now. Rufus not just yet. And it's even a bit difficult to get him to pee outside (obviously it must be nicer in a warm environment than out in the snow). So the story I want to tell was one evening when Rufus refused to go out. I had to carry him. When I dropped him on the icy snow he did not run off into the great outdoors like most dog would.
He hit the ground like a sack of potatoes. Yes, he collapsed completely. His legs were like jelly. Like half boiled spaghetti. He was as loose as a string. He was like water. It made me think of this:
And yes, the dog was fine... With this, there will surely be plenty to blog about...
